How often should I give my dog a bath?

Too many baths can remove essential oils and dry out your dog's coat. The best time to give him a bath is when he looks dirty or begins to smell. Remember always to use a shampoo designed for pets;they are best for skin and coat condition.

Is it okay to give candy to my dog?

Although your dog would love to get his mouth on something sweet, it is best to avoid candy at all costs. Pets should never be given chocolate because it can be toxic and fatal. There are lots of treats made especially for dogs. Avoid table scraps too, as they can cause your dog to have an upset stomach.

What kind of food is best for a dog?

The best kind of food to feed your dog should be based on the type of dog, its age, its activity level and its overall state of health. Premium foods are nutritionally complete, so no additional supplements are necessary. Most premium foods are meat-based, which means your dog will eat less, have improved skin and hair condition, and because the foods are used more efficiently by your dog's body, you'll spend less time with the pooper scooper. Per serving the cost is less than or about the same as lower quality, grocery store foods.

What is the best way to 'housebreak' my dog?

Crate training is by far the most effective tool to use while training your dog. The dog should be placed in the crate anytime it cannot be supervised and to sleep in at night. Your dog then makes the association that the crate is its den. She will be reluctant to 'mess' her space. Through consistent use, your dog will know that your house is her house and outside is the appropriate potty spot.

Do dogs need chew toys so they don't chew up my dad's socks?

Chewing is a natural behavior for dogs, so it is important to provide lots of options. Toys can be made from cotton ropes, rubber, sturdy canvas, vinyl, latex, and even nylon. Be careful to avoid any toys with parts that might break or fall off because your chewing dog could get choked.
